C. J. Mosley is an American football player from the United States who plays in the National Football League (NFL) as a linebacker for the New York Jets. Born on the 6th of June 1992, C.J. Mosley is one of two children born to Clinton and Tracy Mosley in Alabama. Though it is not clear how Mosley got introduced to football, Mobile, Alabama where he was born and raised in is the home town to several top NFL players aside from Mosley; so he possibly may have been introduced to the sports by his peers.

Young Mosley was very athletic at a young age—aside football which he took great interest in, young Mosley also had an interest in track and field events as well as basketball. He excelled in these sports but when he got to high school, though he participated in all of this sports, he stuck with American football.

Theodore High School

At Theodore High School, young Mosley engaged in track events, basketball and football. In his track events, Mosley ran in the 200m dash and the 110m hurdles. Mosley also ran the 4×100 m relay. He participated in the triple jump, long jump as well as the high jump. In football, Mosley recorded 176 tackles and was named to the ASWA 6A All-State team. In his final year of high school, he had 7 sacks and 186 tackles, which earned another ASWA 6A All-State honour. He also was his high school top tackler and was named the Class 6A Lineman of the Year. Rivals.com rated him as a four-star recruit. In the U.S. Army All-American Bowl held in 2010, Mosley who played in the game decided he’ll accept the University of Alabama scholarship offer.

Alabama Crimson Tide Football (University of Alabama)

Mosley went on to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide in all 13 games in his first year in college and received Rivals.com, College Football News and Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-American honours. His second season of college football was marred by an elbow injury, he sustained in the fourth game of the season.

In the junior year, Mosley had 107 tackles, the highest for an Alabama Crimson Tide player. He was shortlisted for the 2012 Butkus Award, where he emerged third, he was also named as the Alabama University football team MVP and he was honoured with the first-team All-American by the Associated Press. In his final season of college football, Mosley once again was in top form, leading his team in tackles with 108 tackles. He also tied with Michael Sam of the Missouri Tigers for the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award in 2013. He received the first-team All-SEC honour. Baltimore Ravens (2014–2018)

In the 2014 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens selected Mosley as its 17 overall-pick. He went on to sign a four-year rookie contract worth $8.87 million with a signing bonus of $4.71 million. He was given the #57 jersey and named as one of the teams starting inside linebackers. He thus became the first Baltimore Ravens rookie to start for the franchise since 2006. After he debuted for the Ravens, Mosley continued in top form. He thus became the first Ravens player to be selected to the Pro Bowl in their rookie season, when he was named to the 2015 Pro Bowl. He was shortlisted for the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award, but he finished as a runner-up. He ended his first season in the NFL with 133 tackles. He then went on to the playoffs, where the Ravens defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wildcard, and lost in the AFC Divisional Round to the New England Patriots.

In his sophomore season in the NFL, Mosley was once again named as one of the Ravens inside linebacker and was in top form. His performance though did not earn him a place in the 2016 Pro Bowl. He ended his sophomore season in the NFL with 117 tackles in 16 games. In the 2016 season, Mosley was again in top form. He sustained a hamstring injury which prevented him from playing in two games and that was the first time he did not start a game. His top form earned him a place in the 2017 Pro Bowl.

In 14 games played in the 2017 season, Mosley started them all and recorded 92 tackles. Following the expiration of his rookie contract, Baltimore Ravens gave Mosley a base salary of $8.71 million for the 2017 season. Once again, he was named as a starting inside linebacker. He earned his third Pro Bowl selection and had 132 tackles in 16 games. He was ranked 98th in the Top 100 NFL Players of 2018. In the 2018 season, Mosley once again earned another selection to the Pro Bowl. He had 105 tackles, the highest in the Baltimore Ravens team.

New York Jets (2019–date)

In March 2019, Mosley signed a five-year deal with the New York Jets worth $85 million. He continued playing in top form of the Jets but sustained a groin injury in December. He thus became the 15th Jets player to be placed in the Injury Reserve list that season. It was reported that he will have to undergo surgery.
