DeAndre Hopkins Childhood & Early Life

DeAndre Rashaun Hopkins was born on the 6th of June, 1992, in a small home in Central South Carolina. His father Harris Hopkins was a full-time drug dealer who was released on probation the night before he had a severe accident that cost him his life. DeAndre was five months old and with his mother in the car when it happened. Only Harris lost his life in the hospital from his injuries, and he was 25 years old. His mother had to cater to him and his three other siblings by taking on different jobs.

DeAndre attended DW Daniel Highschool. He played in different sports, he ran track, played football and was the point guard and back guard in his basketball team, the Lions. The Lions went to a state championship and won in the year 2009-10. He was recognized as the independent Malis of the Season. In his Highschool football, he made 23 touchdowns, 57 receptions for 1266 yards and 28 inceptions. He was rated as the 12th best wide receiver in the nation and the State of South Carolina, and he was the eighth-best by Rcky.com. He also received various rankings by reputable sports organizations, ESPN ranked him the 29th best athlete. He earned an All-State first-team from the state and Charlotte the Observer.

Hopkins enrolled in the Clemson University and played football with the Clemson Tigers. His college career spanned a total of 3 years from 2010-2012. In his freshman period, he made his first game with North Texas running 23yards with 2 receptions and scored his first collegiate receiving touchdown in the following week, this preceded other progress that Hopkins had on each game he played.

In the third game of his 2011 season, he made 8 receptions in 183 yards and 1 touchdown to victory. The ACC Championship was also among his stats; he had 7 receptions and 92 yards in a win against Virginia Tech. In 2011, during his sophomore period, he got a total of 5 touchdowns and 72 receptions in 978 yards.

His team got to the 2012 Orange Bowl, but it was a massive 73-33 loss for the Clemson and a Win for West Virginia. In that game, he made 1 touchdown, 10 receptions for 107 yards. Houston Texans (2013–date)

Hopkins was drafted as the 27th Overall pick of the NFL and the 10th pick by the Houston Texas in a four-year contract of $7.68 million with a guaranteed $6.18 million including a signing bonus of $3.98 million in the year 2013. He was then named Starter and was placed together with wide receiver Johnson in training camp.

Hopkins made his debut in a match with the San Diego Chargers recording 5 receptions and 55yards. On the 2nd of December 2013, the head coach of Houston, Gary Kubiak, was sacked due to the inferior performance of the team leading to the 10-3 loss of the team. After the exit of Kubiat, DeAndre’s performance was impaired by conflicting personal play by the quarterback Matt Schaub, and this led to the benching of Schaub after 9 inceptions in 5 games. DeAndre was named NFL’s All-Rookie Team of the 2013 season.

By the 2015 Season, Hopkins had solidified his role in the team as the number one wide receiver. He finished with 111 receptions in 1521 yards and 11 touchdowns despite the number of quarterbacks that he played with, such as Brian Hoyer, T.J Yates, and the likes, earning his first-ever Pro Bowl nomination and also made the second-team All-Pro. His peers ranked him 19th in the 2016 top 100 players in the NFL.

In his 2016 season, he was Fined $6,076 for equipment violation regarding improper cleats in his Shoes.

On the 3rd of August, 2017, Hopkins renewed his deal with Houston Texans, an $81 million five-year contracts with guaranteed $49 million including a $7.5 million signing bonus.

He completed his 2018 season top and was named 3rd in receptions and 2nd in receiving yards. He earned his second first-team All-PRO.

Hopkins is at the present, single, although there have been several rumours that he was in a relationship with Iggy Azalea but she went on social media to deny the rumours, allegedly not done with her ‘Hoe’ ways.

July 2002 was a very trying time for Greenlee, Hopkins mother, as a woman who Greenlee’s boyfriend was cheating on her with poured a highly corrosive solution of lye and bleach at her because she confronted her. This led to the melting of her skin in the face, neck, and arms. Greenlee was taken to the hospital as 17% of her body was burned, and she had to receive skin grafting. The woman responsible for the burns was sentenced to 23 years in prison for intent to kill and assault and battery. Greenlee became blind as a result of the injuries.
