Julio Jones is a professional footballer who plays the wide receiver position of the National Football League’s (NFL) Atlanta Falcons.

When he was in high school, he was one of the most versatile athletes of all time playing and excelling in a vast number of different sports. Julio received a 5-star rating, the highest rating an athlete can receive.

After finishing high school, he chooses to become a footballer and pursue it as a career.

Julio Jones Childhood & Early Life

Julio Jones was born on the 8th of February 1989 in Foley, Alabama. Julio’s mother initially thought the child she was about to give birth to would be a girl and thus named her unborn child Quinteros, which translates to Gladiator.

Upon realizing that her unborn baby was a boy, Julio’s mother maintained the name but nicknamed him Julio.

Julio had a tough childhood which was filled with love and attention from the only parent in his life, his mother. Julio’s father left Julio, his brother, and his mother when he was just five years.

His mother determined to care for her son, did all she could to provide for Julio. Aside from the struggles to care for her son, Julio’s mother had to shield her young son from the violent neighborhood in which they lived.

As a way of inculcating discipline into her sons, Julio’s mother was really strict with him. Julio was a born athlete, a natural who had talent in sports.

Julio Jones High School Career

At Foley High School, Julio’s sports prowess came to the fore. He played three different sports, basketball, football, and athletics. Julio succeeded at all three.

In 2006 and 2007, Julio emerged as Alabama Champion in the triple jump and long jump and that earned him Alabama State 2006–07 Gatorade T&F Athlete of the Year.

Julio also emerged as Alabama Champion in the high jump in the indoor event.

His success in Athletics saw him receive the 2007 Mr. Alabama Track & Field athlete of the year.

In his high school basketball team, Julio was a starter, as well as in the football team. He performed really well in high school football that few in the country match his abilities.

Right from his second year in high school, Julio was approached by colleges, but until February 2008, he committed to the University of Alabama. Rivals.com regarded him as a five-star recruit.

Julio Jones spent three years playing college football for the Alabama Crimson Tides.

During these years, Julio emerged as a fan favorite and a very talented star, which earned him multiple awards, such as the SEC Freshman of the Year award.

He also led his team to victory in the BCS National Championship in 2010 as well as the Capital One Bowl in 2011.

Atlanta Falcons (2011–present)

With one year remaining for him to complete his college education, Julio decided to enter the 2011 NFL Draft. In the draft, Julio Jones was picked by the Atlanta Falcons as the 6th overall pick.

In July 2011, Julio penned a four-year deal worth $16,183,750. His first season in the NFL was amazing as he had a good performance which saw him feature in the 2011 NFL All-Rookie Team.

In his second season in the NFL, Julio was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. Julio’s 2013 season was blighted by injury, he thus played in just five games throughout the season.

He returned in top form in the 2014 season as he recorded another good performance which saw him earn a second Pro Bowl appearance.

In August 2015, Julio penned a five-year deal worth $71,256,045. That season proved to be a terrific season for Julio who was ranked as the eighth-best NFL player in the Top 100 NFL Player ranking of 2016.

In the 2016 season, Julio’s performance led the Falcons to the Super Bowl LI, where the New England Patriots prevailed. Following their Super Bowl loss, the Falcons had another terrific season in the 2017 season but not enough to see them to another Super Bowl.

Julio’s performance was exceptional enough for him to be rated 4th in the Top 100 NFL Players of 2017, his highest rating so far.

In his 2018 season, Julio had another terrific outing. He became the first Atlanta Falcons Player to record nothing less than 100 receiving yards in 40 games.

After the season, he averaged 104.8 receiving yard, an impressive stat. His performance motivated the Falcons to sign him on a three-year-long deal worth $66 million with $64 million guaranteed.

Julio was the second player in the league with the most receiving yards at the end of the season.

Julio Jones Personal Life

There is very little that is known about the personal life of Jones. All his social media accounts are filled with pictures of his games and also inspirational quotes.

There is no mention of a girlfriend past or present, wife, or even children, and as such, it is unclear if Jones has any.

However, he shares a very close bond with his family, that is why he didn’t move far from home for College but committed to the Crisom Trades of Alabama.

Julio also ensures that they are well taken care of as this has been his goal since when he was five years old when his father left, Julio assured his mother not to cry as he was going to be a footballer and that everything is going to be great later in life for them.
