Todd Gurley’s Childhood & Early Life

Todd was born on the 3rd of August 1994 in Baltimore, Maryland. His family moved to Tabaro Edgecombe County in North Carolina, where he grew up and attended Highschool. His parents Todd and Darlene had four children apart from Todd; their names are Princeton, Davon, Shannon, and Tarik Gurley.

He attended the Tarboro Highschool, and there he participated in several sports such as the basketball, track, football and also soccer. But he excelled more in the American Football and Track events. He played 1472 rushing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 79 tackles in his junior season as the defensive tackle of his team the Vikings. In his senior season, he was named North Carolina Player of the year; he led his team to the 2A North Carolina state championship consecutively in three years. He was a very talented track person. He represented the country in the 2011 world youths athlete championship in France.

He was called a four-star recruit by Rivals.com and was the fifth-best running back in his class. He received different offers of scholarships from several Major Colleges such as Auburn, Georgia, and Clemson. In 2012 he committed to the University of Georgia and their football team under the mentoring of head coach, Mark Ritch.

Todd Gurley’s College Career

Todd attended UGA for three years (2012-2014) and he played with the team, the Bulldogs of Georgia as the outside linebacker. In his freshman year, he was a substitute to the redshirt Ken Malcolm, but in his first game against the Buffalo Bulls, he played a whopping 100 yards and 8 carries and 2 touchdowns. After his spectacular play against the Buffalo Bulls. He began playing regularly after that game. He played in 12 out of 14 games in the season, 1385 rushing yards on 222 carries and 17 touchdowns. He was named First-Team All-SEC by the Associated Press and he became the second freshman to receive this recognition.

On the 31st of August, 2013, he led his team against the Clemson, and even though that led to a 38-35 loss, he still displayed some extraordinary skills and had a great game against the Clemson. He played a 75-yard touch down early in the first quarter. He played in 10 games, rushing 989 yards, 165 carries, and 10 touchdowns. He was named the Second-Team All-SEC by the Associated Press. That same year in the spring, he also competed in some track events, he joined the Bulldogs Track team and completed 60-meter hurdles. Todd came 6th at the VT-Elite Meet.

It was not all Rosy for the rising star. He was indefinitely suspended in his Junior year when it was found out that he collected up to $3,000 in over two years, signing memorabilia and autographs as this was against the NCAA rules. His suspension was later reduced to just 4 games. After the suspension, Todd played against Auburn and sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament ACL. That concluded his career with the Bulldogs of Georgia, as he decided to forgo his remaining year and was enlisted to be drafted into the NFL.

Todd Gurley’s Professional Career

St. Louis / Los Angeles Rams (2015–date)

Todd was drafted as the 10th overall pick to the St. Louis Rams. He was the first Running back to be selected in the 2015 NFL draft. The contract was for four years, with the possibility of extending into the fifth year.  After a successful rehabilitation during the preseason, by preseason end he had undergone training and was relatively fit to play for the season.

His debut game was against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Todd was soon starting in most games of the season. He completed his Rookie season with 1110 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He was listed as the NFL Top-100 player of the year 2016 by his peers.

His next season wasn’t as good as his Rookie with him finishing with 885 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns, ranking him to the 17th position in the NFL. In his 2017 season, he put in more effort, and he was rewarded for his efforts. He was given the offensive player of September, and he was also named the Offensive Player of the week for two consecutive weeks. Todd was the 16th player of the NFL, one player up from the last year.

Todd’s contract with the Rams was extended for five-years in 2018 with $60 million and $45 million guaranteed. This made him the highest-paid running back in the NFL. He made progress throughout the season leading up to his first Superbowl appearance, and his team won against top teams like the Seahawks of Seattle, the Oakland Raiders even the Steelers. There was the talk of Todd’s injuries, and if he would make it to the Superbowl, he didn’t, as he had arthritis in his left knee.

 Todd Gurley’s Personal Life

Todd is not yet married. However, he has been in an ongoing relationship with his girlfriend Olivia Dawson For several years. Olivia is a businesswoman with the entrepreneurial spirit. She has a busy online clothing store called “Liv Lively.” The couple has been together since 2014 although there is no record of there being any children.

Todd’s elder brother, Shannon, is the reason why Todd developed an interest in football. When he was 6, his brother noticed how good he was and enrolled him in the Pop Warner League in Baltimore.
