Michael Nelson Trout (born 7 August 1991) is an American professional baseball player who has had his fair of disappointments and struggles, but the tenacity that propels him has made him one of the greatest in the game of baseball. Mike Trout Childhood & Early Life

Trout was born in the New Jersey town of Vineland but was raised in Millville, still in New Jersey.

He followed the steps of his father who played professional baseball for Minnesota Twins in 1983 but retired as a result of injuries. Having discovered his passion for baseball, Trout played youth baseball in the Babe Ruth League for the Cal Ripken Baseball. He flaunted the no #2 Jersey while playing in the shortstop position. In high school, Trout made the switch to the no #1 Jersey.

Prior to the start of his professional career, Trout played baseball for Millville Senior High School. When Trout was in his senior year, he moved to the outfield position. At the age of 14, Trout played travel baseball with Tri-State Arsenal which saw him play in the Perfect Game WWBA Championships, held in Florida in 2007 and 2008.

In 2009, Trout began playing for the Arizona Angel in the Arizona League, where he finished as runner-up for the AZL MVP after he recorded 13 stolen bases and 25 runs batted in (RBIs) in about 39 games. Prior to the commencement of the 2010 season, Trout was regarded as the 85th best baseball prospect. He went on to record 45 stolen bases and 39 runs batted in (RBIs) in about 82 games. His performance earned him a place in the All-Star Futures Game.

Following the conclusion of the 2010 season, Trout became the youngest player to become the Topps Minor League Player of the Year and was awarded the 2010 J.G. Taylor Spink Award. ESPN’s Keith Law ranked Trout no #1 in its top 100 prospects.

Mike Trout Professional Career

Los Angeles Angels (2011–date)

In July 2011, Trout was promoted to first-team by the Los Angeles Angels making his debut that month. The next game, he recorded his first career major league hit. He, however, was sent back to Double-A Arkansas on August 1, 2011, but was recalled back to the main team on August 19, 2011. That night, Trout became the youngest Angel player to hit two home runs in one game. Trout played as a rookie in 40 major league games earning a batting average of 220. Baseball America named Trout as its Minor League Player of the Year. He was also named to the 2011 Minor League All-Star team as an outfielder.

Trout’s 2012 season began with him featuring in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League for the Salt Lake Bees. The Angel once again brought Trout to serve as a replacement for Bobby Abreu in April 2012. In June 2012, Trout earned his first career four-hit game which earned him his first American League co-Player of the Week honour. Trout increased momentum and earned his second and third career four-hit game in June 2012. On July 22, Trout set a new Angel franchise and American League rookie record when he recorded cross plates in 14 successive games. Trout was also selected to his first All-Star game. He also earned American League Player of the Month and the American League Rookie of the Month. He earned the Rookie of the Month Award four times in a season, the first man to do so since 2001. At the end of the season, Trout was awarded the Rookie of the Year Award unanimously. He also added to his collections: the Heart and Hustle Award, the Silver Slugger and Fielding Bible Award.

In the 2013/14 season, Trout began playing in the left-field position but moved back to centre field that season. His impressive play earned him a place in the 2013 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

In 2014, Trout signed a one year contract worth $1 million. That contract was amended to a six-year deal worth $144.5 million. That season, Trout earned his first MVP award in an All-Star game. He also was named the American League MVP.

In the 2015 All-Star game, Trout once again was awarded the game’s MVP, he however finished second in the AL MVP voting for the second time. Months after, Sporting News named Trout as its best baseball player and Trout affirmed that by winning his second AL MVP award in 2016 as well as the best major leaguer.

Trout had a thumb injury in 2017, which forces him out of the AL All-star games. He, however, returned in action to become the seventh player to record 200 contribs before 25. Sports Illustrated named Trout as the #1 player in baseball after he was named to the Baseball America’s All-MLB Team.
