Anthony Marshon Davis Jr. was born on March 11, 1993, to Anthony Davis Sr. (father) and Erainer Davis (mother) in Chicago, Illinois.

High School Basketball

Davis played high school basketball for the Perspectives Charter School.

They competed in the Blue Division (Chicago Public High School League), which he attended.

Being a charter school with a primary focus on Math and Science with a high academy pedigree, little attention was given to athletics.

Davis and his friends practiced basketball at a nearby church because his school didn’t have a gymnasium.

He stood at the height of 6 feet 0 inches at the end of his freshman year.

At the beginning of his sophomore year, he had added 1 more inch and finally ended the year at 6 feet 4 inches.

His junior year saw him increase to 6 feet 7 inches at the onset and 6 feet 8 inches at the end of the year.

Davis’ family considered transferring Davis to one of Chicago basketball powerhouses but later decided against it after they were advised by Hyde Park Career Academy head coach Donnie Kirksey.

Although Davis was anonymous nationally and locally after playing three seasons in the Blue Division, he was ranked no.1 player in the class of 2011 by Scout.com and the ESPNU 100.

NBA Career

New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans (2012–2019)

Alongside the starting five of the national championship team, the Kentucky Wildcats, Davis declared for the 2012 NBA draft.

The New Orleans Pelicans selected Davis as its first overall pick, making him the fifth Chicago-area first overall selection.

Davis agreed to a three-year contract worth a guaranteed $16 million on July 24, 2012.

Davis debuted for the Hornets on November 1, 2012, but was sidelined in subsequent games due to concussions, but returned to action after missing 11 games.

In the 2013 NBA All-Star Game weekend, he played in the Rising Stars Challenge.

Davis was a 2013 NBA All-Rookie First Team selection in his Rookie year.

In the 2017-2018 campaign, Davis posted 29 points and 11 rebounds in a 107-90 win over the San Antonio Spurs on November 22, 2017, making him reach 7,938 career points toppling Chris Paul from second.

Thus, earning him Western Conference Player of the Week honors for games played from November 20–26.

Davis was also named to the 2018 NBA All-Star Game as a starter on January 18.

On August 8, 2020, Davis recorded 42 points and 12 rebounds in the Laker’s 116–108 win against the Utah Jazz, making his team clinch the No. 1 playoff seed in the Western conference.

First NBA Championship 2019–2020

Davis won his first championship after he and LeBron James led the Lakers to advance to the finals, clinching the team’s 17th championship, in a 4–2 win over Miami Heat.

The Lakers thus tied with Bostin for the most championship wins since NBA history.

Davis entered the record books as the first player ever to win an NCAA title, a FIBA World Cup gold medal, an Olympic gold medal, and an NBA title.

By December 3, 2020, Davis signed a five-year $190 million contract with the Lakers, which includes an option to terminate early before the fifth season in 2024–25.

Davis was named as one of the finalists for the U.S London 2012 Olympic Basketball Team, after injuries to a player who had been on the 20-man team.
