Brock Edward Lesnar is a professional wrestler who is currently in a contract with the World Wrestling Federation (WWE). Brock Lesnar was the third of four children born in Webster, South Dakota on the 12th of July 1977 to his father Richard Lesnar and mother Stephanie Lesnar. He and his siblings grew up in a dairy farm owned by his parents in Webster. By the time he was 17, he was already in the National Guard. He wanted to work with explosives, but was assigned a desk job because of his colourblindness to red and green. He was soon out of a job for failing a typing test, so he started working for a construction company instead.

While in Webster’s High School, he played football and by his senior year, he was already competing in the Amateur Wrestling States Championship, where he came third. In his Sophomore year in Bismarck State College, he won a gold medal for the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Heavyweight Championship. He was later transferred to the University of Minnesota for his junior and senior year, where he became roommates with a future colleague ‘Shelton Benjamin.’ Lesnar ended his amateur wrestling carrier as the Champion of the NCAA 1st Division Heavyweight Championship of 2000.

WWF/WWE Career

That same year, he was signed by the WWF and was assigned to the Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) developmental territory. There he formed a tag team partnership with his former roommate Shelton Benjamin, and they went on to become three-time champions of the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship. He was finally called up to the main roster of the WWF in 2002 and was assigned to the Raw brand after the WWF Brand Extension.

He made his debut on the Raw Brand as a heel, accompanied by his manager Paul Heyman, and attacked Spike Dudley, Maven and Al Snow while their match was on. His first televised match was against Jeff Hardy, which he won by knockout after starting a feud with the ‘Hardy Boyz.’ The following Raw night, it was Matt Hardy who got knocked out by Lesnar. By June of the same year, Brock Lesnar was crowned “King of The Ring” in a tournament where he defeated some of the biggest names of that time including Rob Van Dam and Booker T. By August of that very year, he defeated The Rock at the Summer Slam event and became the youngest undisputed champion of the WWF at only 25.

After his victory against The Rock, he was involved in a series of fights to defend his title. First came the feud with The Undertaker, whom he successfully defeated, then came Rebellion and Edge in a handicap match which he also won, then came Big Show at the Survivor Series. Lesnar got his first defeat in the WWF when Heyman’ turned on him and allowed Big Show to win.

He was able to recover his title from Kurt Angle after a series of fights that led to him winning the Royal Rumble and then challenging for the WWE Championship at the ‘Wrestlemania XIX.’ By March 2004 he had won and lost the WWE Heavyweight Championship title for the third time. He then decided to put his wrestling career on hold to chase his dream of becoming a professional football player.

American Football Career

Brock Lesnar had a great performance during the ‘NFL Combine’ even though he had not played football since high school. But an unfortunate incident occurred on April 17, 2004, when a minivan collided with Lesnar’s motorcycle. He suffered a pulled groin, a bruised pelvis, a fractured arm and a broken jaw. He was still able to play a few preseason games for the Minnesota Vikings after his recovery but was eventually dropped at the start of the season. He was given an option to represent the Vikings in the ‘NFL Europa’, but he turned it down because he did not want to leave his family.

Japanese Pro-Wrestling Career

Lesnar joined the NJPW (New Japanese Pro-Wrestling), and on the 8th of October, he won the ‘IWGP Heavyweight Championship‘ on his debut in a 3-way match against Masahiro Chono and Kazuyuki Fujita. He had two more non-title victories, before successfully defending his title against Shinsuke Nakamura who was a former champion. 9 days later, he again retained his title against a former Grand Champion and sumo wrestler Akebono.

After one last match against fellow American Giant Bernard, which he successfully retained his championship on the 3rd of May 2005. He was later stripped off his title two months later because of some issues with his Visa that made him unavailable for his title defence.

In 2006 Lesnar made the decision to join the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and began training with the Martial Arts Academy of Minnesota. His first MMA fight was against ‘Min-Soo Kim’ which he won in the first round. He then signed a contract with the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and lost his first match against Frank Mir.

By November he beat Randy Couture and became the champion of the UFC Heavyweight division. He successfully defended his title in a rematch against Frank Mir, before he was diagnosed with a serious case of diverticulitis. He did return to defeat Shane Carwin and became the Undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion, then he lost the title to Cain Velazquez before having to take a break to treat his diverticulitis which had resurfaced.

The month of April 2012 saw his return to the WWE after eight years. After several battles with John Cena, Triple H, and ending The Undertaker’s winning streak, Lesnar went on to become world champion five times. He became the WWE’s Universal Champion in 2017, 2018, and in 2019, his first universal championship became one of the longest in WWE’s history at 503 days.

Brock Lesnar is the only person to have won both the IGF, NJPW, UFC NCAA and of course the WWE heavyweight championship titles, making him the one true champion of every ring.

Lesnar got married to his wife Rena Marlette Lesnar on the 6th of May 2006. Rena was also a performer in the WWE with the ring name “Sable” until she retired in 2007. Lesnar and Sable are popularly known as one of the WWE’s power couple with their love story revolving around the WWE. They live in a farm in Maryfield where they have two sons together named Turk (born in 2009) and Duke (born in 2010) and a stepdaughter from his wife’s previous relationship. He was once engaged to Nicole McClain who also gave him twins in 2002, a daughter named Mya Lynn and a son named Luke both of whom are currently very active in sports.
