On the 12th of May 1988, Marcelo Vieira da Silva Júnior was born to his father, Marcelo and mother, Maria da Silva in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His father was a fireman and his mother a teacher, so they raised Marcelo and his sister on very little income.
Marcelo began playing football at the age of 9 and joined Fluminense FC Youth Academy. Growing up with very little, it was very difficult for Marcelo to even pay for the bus fare to training and was even considering getting out of football, but his grandfather took it upon himself to work and support young Marcelo’s dream of playing football at the highest level.

Fluminense FC (2005–2006)
Marcelo rose quickly through the ranks and broke into Fluminense’s first team and was even included in the team of the season in the Brazilian top flight.
Real Madrid (2007–date)
Marcelo moved to Real Madrid for an $8 million transfer fee, at age 18. On the 7th of January 2007, Marcelo made his debut for Real Madrid in a 0-2 defeat to Deportivo La Coruna and was handed his first start in April. By the 2007–2008 season he became a regular starter and many spectators began to view him as a true heir to Madrid legend and fellow compatriot Roberto Carlos.
By the 2009–2010 season, Marcelo was switching between the left-winger and left-back positions. He played the role of a winger so well that he topped the charts on an assist in the Spanish top flight for that season. This earned him a 5-year extension on his contract tying him to Real Madrid till the summer of 2015.
By 2012, his efforts helped Real Madrid clinch their 32nd league title, while also representing his country in the Olympics and winning a silver medal.
The 2012–2013 season was a little off for Marcelo. He scored his first goal in a group stage victory over Manchester City, but he got injured, later on, he returned from an injury lay-off to captain his team to a few victories in February 2013 before sustaining another injury that pretty much ended the season for him.
The 2014–2015 season was a very good one for the number 12, he scored a goal in the preseason Guinness ICC (International Champions Cup) final in a 3 – 1 win against Chelsea. Marcelo featured in 28 league matches scoring 1 goal against Levante before scoring an again in the champions league final 4 – 1 victory over Athletic Madrid, helping Real Madrid win the Copa del Rey and Champions League double.
By July 2015, his efforts got him another contract extension with the Spanish Giants, keeping him in the club for another 5 years, the team lost the league title by just 1 point to their fiercest rivals Barcelona, but they went on to win the champions league in 2016. By the end of the 2016–2017, Marcelo and his teammates were lifting the club’s 33rd La Liga trophy, and the Champions League trophy.
His contract got renewed once again in September 2017 tying him to Real Madrid till the summer of 2022 and he played in every Champions League match all the way to the final when Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 3-1 and Marcelo and his teammates lifted the trophy for the 3rd year in a row.

Marcelo has been on and off when it comes to his international career. He made his debut and scored against Wales, and even drew a comparison to Brazilian legend, Roberto Carlos.
