Timo Werner Childhood/Early Life & Family Background

Timo Werner was born on 6 March 1966, to Günther Schuh, his father and, Sabine Werner, his mother. Werner is of pure and deep German roots. From a young age, Werner has shown great interest in sports, precisely football. His father, Günther Schuh, who noticed his son’s interest in football thus began training him as he played football professionally. Aside from building his skills, his father helped build Werner’s strength and stamina.

As a young boy, his father often instructed him to run up mountains and down in other for him to be athletic and build his strength and endurance. Despite his son’s interest in sports, his parents made his education a requirement for him to continue playing football. Most especially, his mother Sabine insisted that Werner must finish his high school education as a minimum requirement. As a result, Werner had to complete his high school education unlike most of Bundesliga footballers.

TSV Steinhaldenfield / VfB Stuttgart (2002–2013)

While in high school, Timo Werner joined TSV Steinhaldenfeld where he rapidly built his football skills. His amazing antics caught the attention of VfB Stuttgart who enrolled him into their youth system as soon he was on the verge of graduating from high school.

VfB Stuttgart (2013–2016)

In the 2012/13 season, Werner who was just 16 years old, was promoted to VfB Stuttgart U-19 side. He put up an impressive performance scoring 24 goals for the U-19 side during the campaign and thus was awarded the 2013 Gold U-17, Fritz Walter Medal. At just the age of 17 and about 5 months, he debuted for VfB Stuttgart senior side in a UEFA Europa League qualifying match against PFC Botev Plovdiv. He then went on to play in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal becoming the youngest player to play in the league and tournament.

Werner soon registered his first goal and thus became the German league youngest goal scorer. He then went on to become the youngest Bundesliga player register a brace in a game against SC Freiburg. After he signed his official contract with VfB Stuttgart, he became the youngest player in the Bundesliga to feature in 50 games, a record which was broken in 2018. Following this, Stuttgart was relegated and Werner moved on to Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig.

RB Leipzig (2016–Present)

In June 2016, Werned signed a four-year deal with RB Leipzig worth about €10 million, a club record amount. In his debut season, he became the youngest player to feature in 100 Bundesliga matches and became highest German goalscorer in the league with 21 goals. His top effort also landed his team in the UEFA Champions League. In the 2017/18 season, Werner was in wonderful form as always. In a game against his former club Stuttgart in the season, he became the youngest Bundesliga player to reach 150 Bundesliga matches. He also led his side to triumph over league giant, Bayern Munich for the first time in the history of RB Leipzig. He ended his 2017/18 campaign with 23 goals and 7 assists.

In October of the 2018/29 season, Werner reached 50 Bundesliga goals. In December 2018, he registered his fifth Bundesliga brace. In January 2019, he reached his 100th appearance for RB Leipzig. In May 2019, he became the first RB Leipzig to score 50 goals. He began his 2019/20 season by scoring his first hat-trick in the Bundesliga in August 2019. After appearing in the 100th Bundesliga game for RB Leipzig in October, he went on to become the Youngest Player in the Bundesliga to make 250 league appearances in November 2019. 

Timo Werner International Career

From his teenage years to age 21 he made 48 appearances for the German U-15, U-16, U-17, U-19 and U-21 sides where he scored 34 goals. In the European U-17 Championship held in 2012, he led his team to emerge as runner-up. In 2017, he was invited to play for the German senior team in a friendly match against England. In May 2017, he was listed as part of the German squad that’ll feature in the 2017 Confederations Cup. In June 2017, he scored his first international goal against Cameroon. His top performance in the tournament earned him the Golden boot as Germany emerged Champions.

Werner was included in the German squad for the 2018 World Cup. He debuted in the World Cup June against Mexico.
