What are the richest football clubs in England 2020? Interestingly, the English Premier League (EPL) produce some of the high ranking richest football clubs in the world year in year out. The epicentre of football around the globe, the EPL, is one of the most loved football leagues in the world, thanks to the impressive antics, unprecedented upsets and the presence of some of the very best footballers in the game in the league. The league which has seen several top stars feature in it has huge financial incentives that it ranks among the richest football leagues in the world.

In 2018/19 season according to Statista, the Premier League generated about £3 billion from broadcasting, 1.4 billion from sponsorships and about £660 million from matchday Revenue. This data gives insight into the huge financial success the league has experienced. The success of the EPL can not be achieved without the various clubs that make up the league. The league’s financial success has also directly influenced the success of these clubs who record amazing revenues annually.

In 2020, the various clubs’ financial records were released and as always the EPL teams proved to be one of the richest teams in the world.

As revealed by the Deloitte Football Money League (DFML) list for 2020, we present in informative terms, the top-10 richest football clubs in England.

10. Wolverhampton Wanderers: Revenue – €195 Million

For the first time, English football club, Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. makes it to the top 30 in DFML list. The club’s huge financial success recorded in 2019, is no doubt influenced by the fact that the club earned a place in a European tournament for the first time in about four decades. The feat which was enough to send fans jubilating greatly increased their revenue. Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. ranks as the 25th richest football club in the world in terms of revenue generated in the 2018/19 season, a huge jump from its 56th position in the 2019 rankings. In England, the club ranks as the 10th richest based on revenue generated as they generated about €195 million in 2019.

9. Leicester City: Revenue – €200 Million

East Midlands club, Leicester City is a force to reckon in the league this season. Currently, in the top four, the team is actively fighting to earn a Champions League qualification, after it failed to do so last season. Despite their absence in the Champions League, Leicester City still retained its position as the 22nd richest football club in the world. While it’s ranking did not change, revenue certainly increased, from €179 million to €200 million. Its position in England’s richest clubs list increased from 10 in 2019, to 9 in 2020.

8. Everton: Revenue – €213 Million

Due to a not too convincing campaign in the 2018/19 season which saw the club finish in the 8th position in the EPL, Everton rankings decreased. In 2019, they were ranked 17th but in 2020, they slipped 2 places down to 19th, but still in the top 20. Revenue recorded in 2020 was higher than that of 2019 but by just €100,000.  In 2019, they generated €212.9 million while in 2020 they generated €213 million.

7. West Ham United: Revenue – €216.4 Million

Despite finishing 10th in the league in the 2018/19 season, West Ham still recorded an amazing increase in its finances. Though compared to its 2017/18 season, West Ham improved in the 2018/19 season and that perhaps is one reason why they recorded two spots increase in their ranking in 2020. In 2019, they ranked 20th with revenue valued at €197.9 million, but in 2020, revenue increased to €216.4 million, thus making them the 7th richest football club in England. 

6. Arsenal: Revenue – €445.6 Million

Arsenal’s improved performance in the league had a positive effect on revenue generated in 2019. Though trophies would have greatly improved their revenue, the club slipped in the ranking. In 2019, with revenue of €439.2 million, they ranked 9th, but despite revenue increasing to €445.6 million, they ranked outside the top-10 world’s richest football clubs in 2020, for the first time since 2003. Though they rank 11th in the world, Arsenal is England’s 6th richest club in 2020.

5. Chelsea: Revenue – €513.1 Million

Though Chelsea had an impressive 2018/19 campaign which saw them finish in the 3rd spot in the league as well as emerge as Europa League Champions, their ranking decreased by one spot despite an increased in revenue. Chelsea’s revenue in 2018 was €505.7 which placed them as the 8th richest team in 2019. Their €513.1 million total revenue in 2019 earned them a 9th place in 2020’s list, which makes them England’s 5th richest team.

4. Tottenham Hotspur: Revenue – €521.1 Million

Spurs’ incredible run in the 2018/19 season had an amazing effect on its financial standings in 2019. The club which finished 4th in the league and in second place in Europe’s most prestigious club tournament, the UEFA Champions League saw their revenue jump from €428.3 million in 2019, to €521.1 million in 2020. That increase made them move from the 6th richest team in England 2019, to the 4th richest in 2020. Spurs’ position as the 4th richest club in England also makes them the richest football club in London.

3. Liverpool: Revenue – €604.7 Million

The men in red had a phenomenal 2018/19 season which was evident in the revenue generated in 2019. The club who finished second in the EPL following an intense battle with rivals Manchester City for the league title went on to become European champions after winning the UEFA Champions League. That win boosted their revenue which was €513.7 million in 2018 to €604.7 million in 2019. The €91 million increase in revenue made the club hold on to its title as the third richest club in England.

In the EPL, Manchester City had their best season ever. The club who went on an intense battle with Liverpool became the first English club to secure a domestic treble. Man City sought to crown their success in the EPL with a Champions League win, which evaded them. Despite that the club’s domestic success sent revenue shooting up. Revenue increased by €42.2 million in 2020, as they generated €610.6 million in 2019. City still held on to its title as the second richest club in England.

1. Manchester United: Revenue – €711.5 Million

Despite a dismal performance in the 2018/19 season, Manchester United still held on to its title as England’s richest club. The club which also doubles as England’s most successful football club and the 10th most successful football club in the world in 2020 based on overall trophies won saw a €45.5 million increase in revenue in 2019. The club generated €711.5 million in 2019 which solidifies its title as England’s richest football club.
