Born in La Castellane, Marseille, France, Zidane is the youngest of five children born to parents who migrated to France from Algeria in 1953. Zidane’s father worked as a warehouseman and a night watchman, while his mother was a housewife. Though he and his family lived a comfortable life, Zidane grew up in a neighbourhood, known for its high unemployment and increased crime rate.
At the age of 5, Zidane began playing football in the main square of the housing complex he resides in Castellane. When he was 10, Zidane joined a local football team, US Saint-Henri. After spending one and a half years at US Saint-Henro, Zidanes’s moved to SO Septèmes-Les-Vallons.
