Deebo Samuel Childhood Story & Early Life

One of three children born on 15 January 1996, to Galen and Precious Samuel in Inman, located in South Carolina, young Deeboo has been long interested in sports, specifically American football which he played at a very young age. While growing up, Deebo experienced bullying and this made him focus more on football. Bullying itself is one factor that shapes his style of play as a wide receiver.

Chapman High School

In high school, Deebo focused more on football. He was a member of the Chapman high school football team which was coached by Marquel Banks. Though Deebo played for the team regularly, it was not until his senior year in high school that he began to receive media attention. In the AAA playoffs semifinals, he led his team to the semifinals. At the conclusion of his senior year in high school, Deebo had recorded 36 touchdowns, 166 catches in 2,751 yards. High School Sports Report Class thus named Deebo AAA Offensive Player of the Year. Deebo also featured in the Shrine Bowl. Ranking website, Rivals.com rated him as a three-star recruit. Deebo then went on to commit to the University of South Carolina where he continued playing football.

University of South Carolina

Deebo played in five games in his freshman year in college due to a hamstring injury. In his sophomore year, he earned more playing time. He played in 10 games for the South Carolina Gamecocks. In his junior season, he sustained a very serious injury where his knee bent backwards. The injury ruled him out for the entire season. Coming out of injury, there were speculations that Deebo Samuel will enter the 2018 NFL Draft, but he decided to complete his college career. In 2019, Samuel was among the few American football players who were called on to play in the All-star Senior Bowl.

After completing college, Deebo entered the 2019 NFL Draft and was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round, as its 36th overall pick. In July 2019, he penned a four year deal with the 49ers. In September 2019, Deebo debuted for the San Francisco 49ers against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He continued playing in top form for the 49ers and eventually was instrumental to the 49ers progress to the Super Bowl LIV against the Kansas City Chiefs. In the Super Bowl LIV showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs, Deebo had 5 passes in 39 yards. He also recorded 53 rushing yards, a record number for a wide receiver in the Super Bowl. The 49ers, however, lost the game to the Chiefs in a tough 31-20 loss.

Deebo’s four-year deal worth about $7.7 million will guarantee the 49ers wide receiver a salary of about $1.75 million in 2020, $2.1 in 2021 and $2.5 million in 2022.
