Wardell Stephen Curry was born on March 14, 1988, to Sonya Curry and former NBA basketball player Dell Curry in Akron, Ohio and raised in Charlotte North Carolina. Stephen’s love for basketball began when his father started taking both he and his younger brother Seth who currently plays for the Portland Trail Blazer practice shoots with the Charlotte Raptors during warm-ups. Stephen enjoyed success with the Queensway Christian College in Toronto after relocating there. On moving back to Charlotte he enrolled in Charlotte Christian High school where he was also successful. Though he wanted to play basketball in college for the Virginia Tech Hokies which was inspired by his father’s career where he was offered a walk-on spot. He was selected to be part of the Davidson College team from grade ten while studying there.

College Career

Freshman Season

Before début college game for the Davidson Wildcats, head coach Bob McKillop complimented Curry saying “Wait ‘til you see Curry. He is something special”. Curry didn’t disappoint coach Bob as he performed outstandingly that season reaching milestones such as coming second in the ranks of scorers among freshmen, surpassing Keydren Clark’s NCAA freshman season record, named Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, SoCon Tournament MVP, an honorable mention in Sports Illustrated All-Mid-Mention and was selected to be one of the representatives to USA team at the 2007 FIBA under19 World Championships where he helped the team finish with a silver medal.

Sophomore Season

Aside from increase in success Curry increased in height, he got to his adult height of 6 feet 3 inches’ in his sophomore season (2008-2009). In his sophomore season, he earned his third consecutive tournament bid. At the end of the season, he added more feathers to his cap. He was named to the Associated Press’ All-America Second Team, bagged the Most Outstanding Player of the Midwest Region of the 2008 NCAA Tournament and was also nominated for an ESPY in the Breakthrough of the Year Category.

Junior Season

In his junior season, the Davidson Wildcats lost the NCAA regional final to Kansas. In later games, he reached a 2000 point-mark of his career in a game against Samford where he scored 21 points. In February 2009 he rolled his ankle in a game against Furman which made him record his first and only missed game in his college career. He also became the Davidson Wildcats all-time leading scorer and reach 2,488 points in his career. At the end of the season, he was the NCAA scoring leader.

Golden State Warrior (2009–present)

Early Season (2009–2011)

Stephen Curry was accepted as the seventh overall pick in the NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors in a contract worth $12.7 million in 4 years. At end of the 2009 NBA season, he was the first runner-up in the NBA of the year Rookie Category and was named to the NBA-Rookie-All-Team.

In the 2011 season NBA All-Star Weekend, he dominated the Skill challenge and was awarded the NBA Sportsmanship Award.

Injury Season (2011–2012)

Curry had several injuries and surgeries in this season, he had surgery in his right ankle to repair torn ligaments, this healed before the start of the 2011-2012 season, in February of that season he strained a tendon in his right foot and had surgery in April.

Back to Winning Ways (2012–2014)

Curry signed a $44 million contract extension with the Golden State Warrior despite fears about his injury history. He laid this tension to rest when he scored a career-high of 54 points in a game against the New York Knicks and also set a record of three-pointers in a season on the last game of the season.

NBA championship and MVP (2014–2015)

The Golden State Warrior became a title contender in the season, as a result, new strategies put in place by their new coach. Curry reached a season-high of 51-point and broke his own record of three-pointers in a season, he was named the NBA Most Valuable Player of the Season. The Golden State Warriors claimed their first championship in 40 years.

Unanimous MVP (2015–2016)

Curry scored 40 points in an opening game against the New Orleans Pelican, the most scored by a reigning MVP. He also became the first player since Michael Jordan to reach 118 points in the first three games of the season. He also became the first player to record a 400 three-pointer in a season. With continuous successes in other games, he came the 7th player in the NBA history to join the 50-40-90. He was unanimously named the Most Valuable Player of the season. A feat no one had ever achieved until then.

Second NBA Championship (2016–2017)

Curry’s NBA-record streak for 157 games for at least a three-pointer was interrupted. He recorded his eighth Player of the Week honour and was also named co-Western Conference Player of the Month for January along with Kevin Durant. He helped the Golden State Warrior secure their second title in three years.

Third championship (2017–2018)

He signed a $202 million extension with the warriors, which made him the first NBA star to sign a supermax contract worth more than $200 million. In a game against the New Orleans Pelicans, he scored 5 three-pointers and became the fastest player to achieve 2000 three-pointer. He twisted his ankle which had been surgically operated and was out of action for two weeks. In March, he had a medial collateral ligament sprain to his left knee and was out of action for 6 weeks. He helped the Golden State Warrior clinch their third title by leading the scorers with 37 points.

National Team

He debuted for the USA national team at the 2007 FIBA Under-19 World championship where they won gold. He was part of the USA national team squad that won gold at the 2010 FIBA World Championship though played little periods. IN 2014 he was also part of the squad that won gold at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. He pulled out of the 2016 Olympics squad as a result of ankle and knee injuries.

Stephen Curry got married to his longtime actress girlfriend Ayesha Curry on July 30, 2011, in Charlotte. Together they have two daughters and a son, Riley born 2012, Ryan born 2015 and Canon born 2018. His brother Seth is also a professional basketball player while his sister plays volleyball at Elon University.

Curry is a Christian and has a tattoo of 1 Corinthians 13:8 in Hebrews. He donated three insecticide-treated mosquito nets to the United Nation Foundation But Net campaign for every three-pointer. In 2015, after he was awarded the MVP award he donated a 2016 Kia Sorento his prize car to the East Oakland Youth Development Center.
