Jrue Holiday Childhood Story & Early Life

One of four children born on 12th June 1990, to his father, Shawn Holiday and mother, Toya Holiday, Jrue had no difficulty in venturing into basketball as his parents both played basketball in college. His mother received the 1982 Pac-10 Player of the Year Award. Much info on his childhood is not known.

Jrue Holiday High School Career

At Campbell Hall, Holiday played basketball. In his senior year, he was plunged into the spotlight, when he led his side to win the California Division IV state title while recording an average of 11.2 rebounds, 25.9 points and 6.9 assists. Rivals.com thus ranked him, the top pointing guard high school player and the second over high school prospect. He then went on to receive the Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2008. He was further named to the Parade Magazine First Team All-American.

Jrue Holiday College Career

After high school, Holiday went on to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he played basketball for just one season. In his freshman season, he played in 35 games as a starter and recorded an average of 3.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 8.5 points.

Philadelphia 76ers (2009–2013)

In the 2009 NBA Draft, Holiday was selected in the first round, by the Philadelphia 76ers as its 17th pick. In his rookie season, Holiday played in 73 games, and averaged, 8.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists. In February of his sophomore season in the NBA, Holiday recorded the first triple-double of his career. He finished the season with an average of 14 points and 4.0 rebounds in 82 games. That season, he played in the playoffs for the first time.

In the 2011/12 season, he started for the Philadelphia 76ers in 65 games and had an average of 13.5 points. In January of his last season with the Philadelphia 76ers, the 2012/13 season, Holiday got the second triple-double of his career. He then went on to receive an All-Star Team honour. He was named as an Eastern Conference reserve in the 2013 All-star game. Holiday who was 22 years old then, became the Philadelphia 76ers youngest recipient of the All-Star honour

New Orleans Pelicans (2013–date)

In July 2013, Holiday was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. In his debut season with the Pelicans, he suffered injuries which allowed him to feature in just 34 games. A fracture in his right tibia he sustained in February 2014 ruled him out of action for the rest of the season. The next season, Holiday returned to action in good condition. By January 2015, he had reached the 5000 career points mark. He, however, sustained an injury in his right leg in February 2015. He missed 41 games, and return to play in April 2015. He averaged 14.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 6.9 assists in 40 games.

In the 2015/16 season, he played a significant amount of games, before he was out of action for the rest of the season as a result of an injury. He had an average of 16.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 65 games. He continued in good form the following season. His efforts on the courts were rewarded in July 2017, when he re-signed with the New Orleans Pelicans. Holiday played 81 games that season and averaged 19.0 points. He further led his side to the playoffs where they lost to the Golden State Warriors in the second round.

In the 2018/19 season, Holiday returned in amazing form. In January 2019, in a game against the Houston Rockets, he became the first guard in the history of the NBA to record a minimum of 17 points, 6 rebounds 6 blocks and 7 assists in a game. His top form that season ended as a result of a surgery he had to undergo in March to correct a muscle injury. Holiday played in 67 games and averaged a career-high 21.2 points, a career-high 5.0 rebounds and 7.7 assists.

Jrue Holiday is married to Lauren Holiday (originally called Lauren Cheney), a former US soccer player who won Olympics gold twice and the FIFA Women World Cup. The couple who got married in the month of July 2013 met when they were still at UCLA. In September 2016, weeks after Lauren Holiday gave birth to their daughter, she had surgery to remove a brain tumour.

Holiday’s brothers, Justin Holiday and Aaron Holiday play professional basketball for the Indiana Pacers in the NBA.
